The Corona del Sol Band Program is recognized as one of the finest in Arizona, with over 350 students involved in band and percussion classes at the school. The program has 4 concert bands, 3 percussion ensembles, jazz ensembles, steel drum band, winter color guard, and a 160-member marching band.
The concert and jazz bands consistently earn “Superior with Distinction” ratings at state festivals every year. The top band, the Wind Ensemble, has performed at the Arizona Music Educators Conference as a featured honor group (most recently in January 2022). Typically, 50+ students successfully audition into the AMEA Regional Honor Band, and a several students make it into the Arizona All-State Honor Band each year. The jazz and steel bands perform a special concert each year with world-renowned professional musicians, including Liam Teague, Andy Narrell, James “J.T.” Taylor, and more.
The Marching Band is one of the largest and most successful in the state, consistently placing in the “top 3” marching bands in the Arizona State Marching Band Championship. The band travels out-of-state each year and is regularly featured as a finalist in the Bands of America Regional Championships, one of the few Arizona groups to achieve this honor. The band puts on Broadway-style production shows each year with a theme for the music and visual.
The marching band has previously done shows based on tango music, silent movies, rattlesnakes, samurai, ancient Egyptians, man versus machines, New York City, and more! This year, we will put together a show entitled “Life on Mars,” featuring music by David Bowie.
The marching band is always in demand for special events - having been featured on Channel 12 news, American Idol, and was honored to perform with Katy Perry in the Super Bowl 49 Pepsi Halftime Show.
Our dynamic Color Guard has won the state championship four times, and achieved the highest ranking of an Arizona group in the WGI World Championships in Ohio in 2013.
The Percussion Program is the largest in the state of Arizona and consistently wins percussion titles in State of Arizona every year. The top percussion ensemble won 2nd place at the WGI World Championships in 2016, 2018, and 2022. The Steel Drum band performs a tour to Disneyland each year and also performs at the Fiesta Bowl Parade each December.
